FAQ
1. What is THCa, and how is it different from THC?
THCa is the precursor to THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. All marijuana starts off as THCa, and it converts to THC after a process called decarboxylation. This typically happens after trimming during the curing process, where the buds are kept at temperatures between 275 and 300 degrees. It is then that the double bonded carbon molecule is converted to carbon dioxide, making the acetate form (THCa) convert to the salt form (THC). The same thing happens when you smoke, vape, or cook THCa. The magic of science.
2. How is this legal?
The 2014 Farm Bill and the 2018 Farm Bill state the rules and regulations regarding “Industrial Hemp,” defining it as Cannabis Sativa l, or any part of such plant with a Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-9 THC) concentration of not more than 0.3% on a dry weight basis. It is important to note that only the Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol level is relevant, not THCa or any other form of THC. We carry Certificates of Analysis (COA’s) on every and all products sold here at The Green Lady.
3. What is the endocannabinoid system (ECS)?
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a complex cell-signaling system involved in a wide variety of processes, including pain, memory, mood, appetite, stress, sleep, metabolism, immune function, and reproductive function. The ECS was identified in the early 1990’s by researchers exploring THC. Further research has revealed that every mammal on earth has an ECS. The ECS relies heavily on naturally occurring endocannabinoids and their receptors (CB-1, CB-2, TRPV1, TRPV2), but can also utilize Phyto cannabinoids (endo means internal, Phyto means plant derived).
4. What is CBD? CBG? CBC? CBN?
The ECS was discovered in the early 1990’s, but the cannabinols CBD and THC have been known, and studied since 1944. Since the increased interest in the ECS and further studies have revealed more than 150 different cannabinoids that can be separated into three distinct categories, Endocannabinoids- originating in the body (e.g. anandamide, 2-AG), Phyto cannabinoids- plant derived (e.g. THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, CBC etc.), and synthetic cannabinoids- lab created (e.g. HU-210, JWH-018)
5. What is Delta 8 THC and how it is different from Delta 9?
Delta-8 THC is a naturally occurring cannabinoid, however it occurs is such minuscule amounts that in order for it to be useful, it needs to be derived in a laboratory, similar to the way aspirin is synthesized. Delta-8 bonds similarly to the way Delta-9 THC does, to the ECS, but at a significantly lesser degree. Typically, as much as 50% less than Delta-9 THC.
6. What is the difference between Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum?
When you are shopping for cannabis related products, there are a couple of things that are of importance. Full spectrum products contain >.3% THC, which may show up on a drug screen, whereas Broad Spectrum does not. While there is some debate about the difference in efficacy between the two, we generally believe that the more pieces in play, the more synergy occurs. Whichever product you choose is mostly depending on personal preference and circumstances.
7. What are the differences between methods of consumption (tincture, capsules, topicals, gummies, smokable, vaporable, concentrates)?
When it comes to cannabis related products, the method of ingestion is sometimes as important as the product itself. Whichever product and methodology you decide on, there are a few things to take into consideration. Smokable forms of cannabis (loose flower, pre-rolls) have a rapid effect and generally is a great way to experience the whole plant. Edibles can contain isolated cannabinoids such as THC or CBD, or combinations like CBD/CBG, or THC/CBD, and many others, depending on what the desired effect may be. It is important to know a couple of things about the effects of edibles, the time it takes to metabolize (between 30-90 minutes, depending on a person's own metabolism) and dosing. We always suggest starting small, as you can always take more if needed, but once taken, you have bought that ticket to ride. Sublingual tinctures have a much faster onset due to the fact that they bypass the processes of digestion and elimination in the liver. Typically tinctures have a more immediate and full effect because of that. Our capsules consist of nano particles and are a familiar way of taking a less than familiar compound. Topicals work on the skin, and immediate subcutaneous membranes and are great for aches, pains, and acute inflammation. Vapes and concentrates are close to instantaneous, have less residual smell, and are known for their strong effect.
8. How does the dab bar work and what is a dab?
The Green Lady Dab Bar operates as an on-premises place to consume cannabis in its purest forms. We offer a variety of concentrates consisting of, but not limited to, Badders, crumbles, sugar crumbles, etc. in a variety of percentages. It works similar to an ordinary bar, but instead of a drink, you take a dab. Our e-rigs are electronically heated and ready to go. Upon ordering a dab, you receive your own mouthpiece and a water. The budtender then goes over the process and guides you through your experience. Prices are subject to change.
9. What are the differences between Sativa, Hybrid and Indica?
Typically, cannabis comes under one of three headings, determined by a number of variables, and can be identified for an easier method of deciding on what to order for a particular effect. Typically, Sativa is categorized by larger, brighter buds with effects ranging from uplifting, creative, and energizing; whereas, Indica have darker hues such as dark green and purple, and are suggested to have more pain relieving, sedative, and calming effects. Most strains fall into the hybrid category, combining characteristics of both Sativa and Indica, with a variety of effects. Your budtender should be able to guide you along on discovering which strain is right for you.
10. What are terpenes, why are they important, and examples?
The most common defining element in choosing which strain is right for you is the level of THC concentration, but it is by no means the only factor. Another extremely important component in how a person responds to a specific strain are substances called terpenes. Terpenes can be identified by their unique smells, whether it be lemony (limonene), peppery (beta-caryophyllene), lavender (linalool), piney (pinene), or mango-like (myrcene). Each terpene has distinctive smells and effects.
